We are back with the second part of Kids Activities for Rainy Days!

After all, we are in Ireland, and chances are: it’s probably raining right now :)

So, remember, if you can’t go outside, use few creative ideas to bring the fun indoors instead!

Here are more ideas to help you keep the kids happy:

– Easy cooking with the Children – This idea can also be great if your child is a fussy eater! By asking the kids to help with the cooking and the prep work, you are helping them to learn how to enjoy and appreciate good food!

You can start with creative ways to present fruits, for example.

Cut an apple into thick wedges, then cut some green grapes in half, and use a toothpick to create ‘cars on wheels’ by sticking the grapes on the apples. You can find amazingly creative ideas online if you have the time to search for it!

And if you have even more time (and the patience) and feel you are able for it, baking is another great way to get the kids busy in the kitchen! They are well able to put all the ingredients in bowl and mix them together! And remember, the messier it gets, the more they will enjoy it! You can find great baking ideas for the children at “www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/kids-baking”.

– Create a ‘Rainy Day Box’ – It can be hard to think of an activity when you are trapped indoors! So create a Rainy Day Box of Fun, which is only brought out when the weather is grey. The idea is to have a hands-on activities and crafts box. Your Rainy Day Box will need to be large, so you can keep it stocked with a good assortment of fun stuff:

·         All sorts of art and craft supplies you can find at home;

·         Pencils, crayons, chalk, etc;

·         Old make-up and old clothes;

·         Jigsaw puzzles;

·         Old magazines and newspapers for papier-mâché or collages;

·         Left over party favours like balloons and decorations;

·         Old greeting cards;

·         Family board games.

The options of what you can keep in the box are endless! And don’t forget to restock it when the weather clears up

– Indoors Treasure Hunt – Kids love Treasure Hunting, so nothing better than it to keep their rainy days lively!

Create your own version of treasure hunting by taking in consideration the age of the children, as well as their own personal skills and abilities. A good option is to ask the kids to work as a team and help each other (when there are significant age gaps within the group).

Now, here is the idea: You can start the day with a treasure hunt, where the treasure hidden is going to be the ‘Rainy Day Box’ mentioned above. After the kids find the treasure, is time to move on to arts & crafts activities, followed by cooking and preparing snacks together in the kitchen.

All of a sudden the whole rainy day will be gone, plus the kids will be happy – including yourself.
