New Free Pre School Year for Pre Primary Children

In January 2010, the Government will begin to provide a free pre school year for children in the year before they start primary school. An annual capitation grant of between €2,425 and €2,450 will be payable, over a full year, to participating pre-school services for each enrolled child

All children aged between 3 years 3 months and 4 years 6 months at 1 September each year, will be eligible and parents who wish to avail of the scheme can enroll their children with Little Harvard crèche and Montessori.  Children entering the scheme in January 2010 will be eligible if they are aged between 3 years and 7 months and 4 years and 10 months at 1 January 2010. We believe that there will be no cap on the numbers of children a service may enroll in a given year, assuming that the service continues to operate within the parameters of the Pre School Regulations.

From September 2010, the pre-school year will run from September of each year in line with the school year.

Children enrolled in playschools will receive free pre-school provision of 3 hours per day, 5 days each week over a 38 week year.  This equates to a weekly capitation grant to the service of €64.50 and currently the Office of the Minster for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA) are stating that parents with children enrolled in these services will not be charged.

Children enrolled in full or part-time childcare services will receive free pre-school provision of 2 hours and 15 minutes per day, 5 days a week over a 50 week period.  This equates to a weekly capitation grant to the service of €48.50, with parents paying a childcare fee net of this amount.
Payments w

ill be made directly to the childcare service.
